Paula Abdul seeks talent online
For all the hopefuls out there who want to make it into the entertainment industry and can’t fallow the traditional auditioning process, there’s yet another way to connect with casting directors: AuditionBooth.com – the groundbreaking casting website launched (beta version) by singer-dancer Paula Abdul, on November 22.
After giving up her judge seat on the American Idol talent show, which meant eight years of discovering musical talents, Abdul returns to the public attention with two major projects, focused on nurturing new talent via TV and Internet, respectively. The first one is CBS’ dance reality-show Live to Dance, coming up in January 2011, and the second one is the innovative casting platform which aims at offering up-and-coming actors the opportunity to get discovered – the only requirements being: Internet connection, a webcam and great talent. ‘Cause it’s all about the opportunity, as the artist explains to the Hollywood Reporter:
“I’ve spent so much time throughout my career nurturing great talent, some of whom have realized their dreams and some of whom haven’t been as lucky. The fact is though that in some cases the only difference has been opportunity – that is what AuditionBooth is about, the opportunity.”
Paula Abdul is not only the creative force and spokesperson of the project but also co-founder, equity partner and board member along with Greg Brill, founder and CEO of Infusion Development, technology training and consulting firm and AuditionBooth Chairman Frank Celli who stated:
“Our proprietary technology that connects unique individuals to industry professionals is as important as the casting relationships we bring to the table, and we’re eager to say you’ll be seeing AuditionBooth members on screens very soon.”
Audition announcements have already been posted on the website for What If?, a dating show and Bag of Misfits, a reality roving comedy group, and the offer is yet to increase as all kinds of shows, music competitions and brand campaigns are to join the project. The idea is simple: talented people can use, free of charge, AuditionBooth to record and upload their audition videos, while casting decision-makers can screen the submissions to find the right person for a certain part. Feedback can also come from the site’s visitors who can post comments on and “like” the videos.
As technology is continually developing, the old-fashioned auditioning process becomes overrated. AuditionBooth enables everyone to get their talent across to the right people, easier, faster and overcoming the distance barrier between them. And who’s more suited to give creative advice to and nurture the aspiring entertainers than the experienced Paula Abdul?
So, people, don’t hesitate and “Step in. Be discovered!”
